In the recent concluded International Women’s Day, the world celebrated women’s achievement and raise awareness of women’s equality. It is a much deserved celebration.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Anneliese Dodds, Chair of the British Labour Party, and also Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities shared a clipped on her Twitter account.
Labour will lift women up, not hold them back.

However, appearing on BBC’s Woman’s Hour, Anneliese Dodds struggled to define “A Woman” when pressed by the hostess Emma Barnett. The talk was released by BBC on 08 March 2022, coinciding with the International Women’s Day.
In vain, Anneliese Dodds tried to skirt the definition with these few attempts:
- ..someone who is adult and female, I think.
- I mean, obviously, that’s then you’ve got the biological definition, legal definition…
- I think it does depend what the context is surely.
Below is a short conversation from the talk.
Author J. K. Rowling was quick to point out the hypocrisy of Anneliese Dodds in her tweets.
This morning you told the British public you literally can't define what a woman is. What's the plan, lift up random objects until you find one that rattles? https://t.co/QoBPt5HpKf

Someone please send the Shadow Minister for Equalities a dictionary and a backbone.#HappyInternationalWomensDay https://t.co/2dXZivMHyO

Sigh! What age are we living in, whereby a woman in power could not even define “A Woman”! It is sad when one cannot even define the ideology for which they are standing for.
