Can You Fall In Love With OATS?

Oats is a name that invokes ‘good-feelings’ for those health conscious or ‘ill-feelings’ for those obligated to eat for health reasons.

I began my affair with Oats ‘on and off‘ starting mid 2015. It started with breakfast and I really had to eat it ‘fast‘ just to get over with it. The taste was stale and I often wondered why I even bothered as I chewed on it aimlessly with sleepy eyes (you get that enthusiastic picture there!). I added dried berries, honey with milk to make it flavourable but …..

I changed gears in 2017 and made Oats a part of my regular diet. From breakfast, it slowly moved to dinner, which replaced my white rice intake. At that point, it was comfortable eating (instant) Oats just mixing milk and sometimes with raisins. This was in my pursuit to control my cholesterol, loss weight and also to check the belly from shifting my centre of gravity.

Till then, I was satisfied that I managed to come so far to enjoy the Oats on almost a daily basis. It was only when I went for a week-long vacation without Oats that me realised one thing – I returned home with a longing to eat (instant) Oats. How Interesting! I have fed my body with Oats long enough that it longed for it.

Now I enjoy and savour (instant) Oats for my lunch and dinner along with regular meat, salad, fruits and lentils. I no longer take Oats for breakfast because of my Intermittent Fasting. The best thing is that it is healthy and I am enjoying that too!

After years of eating Oats, Quaker Oats is one of the best. But for about a year of so, I take Heritage Oats. The Oats does not turn slimy when mixed with hot water and milk. The same goes for Quaker Oats too.

Takeaway

Our body demands what it is being fed regularly, like any other habit forming activity.  As stale as it may be, initially, with time you will start savouring Oats too.
