Character Of True Sportsmanship?

The character of a person is often determined by how they regard their opponent even in the midst of their conflict. Despite the rivalry, some can still choose to have a general goodwill toward their opponent with something positive to say.

In the heavily contested US Presidential election cycle between former President Trump and VP Harris, they were both asked to name 3 virtues of their opponent.

VP Harris was asked of that on 11 Oct 2024 during the Town Hall with Latino Community. Harris begins by accusing Trump of name calling and fear mongering and how she is critical of Trump. She ends by commenting on Trump’s love for his family but nothing on the three virtues.

On 17 Oct 2024, former President Trump was also asked the same question during the Town Hall with Latino Community. Trump went on to list the 3 virtues in Kamala:

1) Survivor
2) Maintaining long-time friendship
3) Nice way about her

Similarly, during the US Presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on 10 Oct 2016, they were asked to name one positive thing that they respect in one another.

Hillary went first and complimented his children, indirectly, but not on him, directly. Meanwhile, Trump complimented on Hillary directly that she is a fighter, which he considered to be a a good trait.

Does Trump show better sportsmanship against his opponents despite the heated atmosphere back in 2016 and then now? Is he playing by the rule “When they go Low, we go High”?

Let’s see who makes it to the finish line first!
