This category involves workouts or activities, and accumulating points. There are two apps that require placing a certain amount of money for activities. If you need some motivation to work out or exercise that includes running, walking, or doing certain given task, this may be a good option but comes with a certain risk too. All monetary transaction is through PayPal.
Disclaimer: For the StepBet and WayBetter mentioned below, I have no affiliation with the apps. The activities may incur monetary loss if you are not able to complete the tasks. I am sharing about this so that you would put some effort to get physically active and earn some money too. However, I will not be responsible for any loss incurred.
1. StepBet
The app is good if you walk a lot daily or physically active; or even need motivation to be active. Each game will give you daily steps to complete each week: some are light and easy (low pay-outs), while some require that extra effort (high pay-outs). Length of each game last from 2 weeks, 6 weeks, or 8 weeks.
Steps are synced based on Garmin, FitBit, Google Fit and S Health.. After you select a game from StepBet, you will be shown steps to complete per day for a given duration (weeks). If the task is doable for you, then you can place money (called pot) in the game. The pot you put in depends on the game: $10, $40, or $60 USD. At the end of the game, the pots of those that couldn’t finish the game will be equally distributed among the winners. For starters, there is a game ‘Try StepBet” of $10 USD for 2 weeks to test the waters before joining the bigger games.
As a non-member, you can participate in only one game but as a registered member (additional $50 USD charged annually), you can participate in 3 ongoing games at a time. Below are my ongoing games (bottom left) and my points earned since March 2021. The amount of $366.27 USD consists of the pot that I put in with the profits earned. The net profit till July 2021 is $115 USD. Download and register at StepBet from Google Play and App Store and start earning from your walks. I have no affiliations with StepBet.
After you join the game, you can post pictures of your walks, places, motivational messages for others or get motivate from others – it is a nice global community. The customer support is quite good based on my few interactions.
Important Tip: During the initial period, set a reminder (few hours before you sleep) to check on the status of your steps and to complete any pending steps. I have missed few times to complete the day by several steps and it was very frustrating (Trust me on that!).
2. WayBetter
The games here are more than walking and grouped into Fitness (physical activities), Nutrition (healthy eating) and Mindfulness (self-care or improvement). To participate there is a registration fee of $15 USD/year with no restriction on the games to participate. Similar to StepBet, you will have to put your money on hold till the end of the game.
-Fitness
The games include physical activities like walking, running, push-up, squat etc. For each game, you will be required to do the activities each week (around 4 – 6 times a week). For runs, a fitness watch is required to sync the activities. I usually join 2 or 3 running games simultaneously to maximise the effort. Based on my experience, push ups and runs have better pay-outs..
-Nutrition
This is relatively easier as it is not physically tasking. The activities include staying hydrated (posing for a picture with the glass of water), counting calorie or food tracking (requires a picture of the food) etc. The money put on hold is usually $10 USD for each activity. Most of the activities are for 2 weeks .
-Mindfulness
This is the easiest of all, and the activities are generally for 2 weeks, and the pot placed is mostly $5 USD. The activities include reading (requires taking a picture of the current page), being gratitude (writing down about being grateful and uploading a picture – this one is very helpful), home decluttering etc.
Below is a screenshot of my ongoing games. They are all under Fitness because the pay-out is better there but more effort required. The last pay-out of the game is highlighted at the bottom (red box). I placed $15 USD and received $17.33 USD (Net profit of $2.33) after squatting 6 days a week for 2 weeks (Phew!). The app can be downloaded from Google Play and App Store. I have no affiliations to the links
3. Sweatcoin
Sweatcoin is free, and points are accumulated as SWC – the more you walk, the more SWC you get. The SWC can be exchanged for vouchers online from different merchandise (it keeps updating regularly). The SWC can also be donated to charities listed in the app (below left image). When I first joined there was an option to exchange 20,000 SWC for $1,000 USD. Unfortunately, that offer is no longer available but I’m hoping that it would return. I started with Sweatcoin in March 2020 (during the Covid19 lockdown) and managed to accumulate only 7,991 SWC (red box below), as of July 2021. I still need to walk few years to reach that 20,000 SWC (Sigh!).
You can download and register using the affiliate link of Sweatcoin. If you register using that link, I will get 5 SWC into my account. You may also share your link with your friends after registration to get the same amount of SWC.
Enjoy burning your calories and earning money at the same time, while being accountable to your pots.
You can also Earn Money Online without getting involved in physical activities or even Earn Free Cryptocurrencies Online.
