The occupational hazard of working in the kitchen is the accidental contact with hot pots, hot oil or hot water spilling on the skin. This is a very unpleasant experience that leaves the exposed skin to inflammation resulting in blisters. And the best home remedy for this is quickly applying a film of extracted chicken oil. This provides a soothing effect and greatly reduces the burning sensation.
Below are the steps to extract oil from fresh chicken fats. The other name for extracting oil from the chicken fat is also known as Rendering chicken fat. For simplicity, in this post, I refer it as oil.
Disclaimer: Please note that this is best for minor burns. For major or severe burns please consult a doctor immediately.
1. Buy a full chicken
For a Broiler chicken, there is no shortage of the fat but for a Farm chicken it may not be so prominent. Do a Quality Check of the chicken by checking out its rear end because that is where most of the fats are concentrated. Just ensure that you don’t spend too much time doing that because you may draw from stares from fellow shoppers. Below is an image of a Farm chicken with the visible fats (circled in red)

2. Cut out the fresh fats
Slice out the fats from the rest of the chicken and keep it aside to extract the oil. Besides the lump of fat, you can also cut out the fats under the skin too. Make sure that it is properly cleaned.

3. Oil extraction process
I usually heat the fresh fats at low-moderate flame for the oil to be slowly extracted out. Be careful to ensure your hands are dry during the whole process. Any water drops on the hot oil would splatter all over. Towards the end, you may use a spoon to press out more of the fat. At the end, the fresh fats will be reduced to a dry chunk. Once the oil has cooled down, store it in a container and keep it in the fridge. It would last for several months. The oil can be applied on the burned skin as and when required.
Note: The time interval below the images is just an estimate and not to be followed strictly. The duration of the whole process will depend on the portion of the fresh fats and the heat volume. The completion of the whole process is usually determined from the reduction of the fresh fats to a dry chunk.

Case Study
Below are pictures taken over a week after I burned my right index finger on a hot pan. I took pictures from Day 03 onward only. I applied the chicken oil only once, right after the accident. Since I did not felt any inflammation, I did not bother to apply more than once. I believe regular application would help with the healing faster.
