“Look Daddy, Look Mummy!”. Those were the words a young child uttered as I took a bus today. “Aw! That is sweet”, I thought to myself as I flicked through the latest news on Covid19 on my phone.
But what caught my attention was when those words slowly turned into a plea. I cranked my neck up from my phone to find a young couple with their energetic daughter. She was pointing out to the window as the bus moved on.
The girl, I presume, was trying to draw her parents attention to show something interesting (?) outside. At one point, the girl even had to make the parents turn their heads towards the window with her tiny hands.
It was then that I realised that the parents were glued to their own phones, only to look up and gave a momentarily blank glance out of the window. Then they slowly move their gaze in the direction of the small device held in front of them.
Unfortunate, that the small device in their hands seemed to precede the importance of their daughter’s effort to engage in a conversation.
“What was the curious mind trying to show her parents?” buzzed through my head. I guess we will never know. If only the parents had given her that attention, I pondered, before returning my attention to the latest updates on Covid19. Slowly, those words faded out in the background.
