Saudi ‘CAMEL’ Beauty Pageant

Ever heard of Camel pageant? I have never heard of this before till today. I could not have been more surprised reading this news. Animal shows for Cats and Dogs are common, but Camel was the least expected, also, especially for a pageant.

I thought this was weird, but, wait, this was not the weird part. The weirder part was the disqualification of 40 camels from the pageant. It gets even more weirder with the reason for the disqualification. The 40 camels were disqualified from the pageant because of Botox, face lifts and muscle-boosting hormones – Sigh! What is the world coming to?

This was part of the 40-day Abdulaziz Camel Festival where breeders compete for more than $66 million in prize money. This may be the biggest-ever crackdown on camel beauty contestants by the Saudi authorities.

I had mix emotions reading the articles on BBC, CNN, CBS, Daily Mail, NBC to name a few. The mix emotions of laughing at the weirdness of the news and, at the same time, sad at what the camels have to go through.

Where is the PETA when you need them?
